The fine people behind the Gasparilla Music Foundation, a nonprofit that hosts Tampa\u2019s annual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gasparillamusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gasparilla Music Festival<\/a>, agree, but have taken it one step further, promoting local and well known musicians, supporting and assisting music education programs and otherwise giving back to the community as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featuring a kaleidoscope of artists, including Cage the Elephant, Ghostface Killah, Ryan Adams and many others, and local food options that highlighted some of Tampa\u2019s best restaurants, chefs and breweries, it was a tasty and tuneful smorgasbord of a weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How could we not be a part of the fun? Baker Barrios was proud to be the sustainability sponsor of the Gasparilla Music Festival, doing our part to help them fulfill the goals of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"is-style-bullet wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creating a long-term sustainable institution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Directly supporting and promoting Tampa\u2019s local musicians<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Showcasing and supporting Tampa\u2019s booming culinary and brewing scene<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing financial assistance to music programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contributing substantially to Tampa\u2019s economic development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helping rejuvenate Tampa\u2019s urban core&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting local cultural heritage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensuring festival production has minimal impact on the environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Openly promoting alternative transportation methods, as well as public transit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/GMF-night-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/GMF-night-1024x683-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/GMF-night-1024x683-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/GMF-night-1024x683-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>GMF\u2019s community-minded sustainability initiatives help make it one of the largest environmentally-conscious events in the region. They work with a local organic farm who composts all of the food vendors\u2019 food prep waste prior to and during the event to in turn help grow vegetables to donate &nbsp;to local food banks. In addition, they have eliminated the use of plastic water bottles by only offering Boxed Water\u00ae at the event, which is recycled from trees. GMF also works with the City of Tampa to recycle all cardboard, cartons, plastic aluminum and glass used throughout the weekend. As if that is not enough, they have partnered with We are Neutral to donate carbon offsets to ensure that the festival is a carbon neutral event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our own Rob Ledford said, \u201cAt Baker Barrios, we see sustainability as a powerful path to innovation and crucial to the growth and future of our cities. Our community involvement begins with partnerships, such as with GMF, that support social, sustainable and economic development and share our passion in the advancement of the arts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tampa\u2019s Sustainability Scene<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Dancing, singing, eating, drinking&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;giving back to our community makes for a mixtape of good that\u2019s music to Baker Barrios\u2019 ears. But this isn\u2019t the first time Baker Barrios has given back to Tampa\u2019s sustainability scene. We\u2019re equally proud to have been the prime architect for the LEED-Silver certified projects, Ella, Trio &amp; Reed located in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/encoretampa.com\/\">Encore! Downtown\u2019s Tempo district<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"669\" src=\"https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/DSC1536-1024x669-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/DSC1536-1024x669-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/DSC1536-1024x669-1-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bakerbarrios.baba.staging.findsomewinmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/DSC1536-1024x669-1-768x502.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Encore is a mixed use, mixed income redevelopment of what had previously been public housing just north of downtown Tampa. During construction of the project, all of the site\u2019s concrete demolition was recycled for use for nearby road construction projects and the large oak trees were all retained as is. By keeping the focus on health and well-being, Encore was created as a smoke-free community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the residential buildings, Baker Barrios also designed the district\u2019s central energy plant. Not only does the plant operate up to 50% more energy efficiently than cooling each individual building, it also frees up the rooftops for resident amenities. These are just a few examples of the steps taken to distinguish Encore as a successful energy efficient project.
